Gisagara District Launches Rehabilitation of Save–Musha–Mamba 19.5km Road to Boost Local Development

The Gisagara District, in partnership with Rwanda Transport Development Agency (RTDA) and Rwanda Ministry of Defence, has officially launched the rehabilitation of the Save–Musha–Mamba road, a key infrastructure project aimed at improving mobility and economic activity in the region.

Official Launch in Musha Sector

The project was officially launched in Musha Sector on 15th April 2026, with key leaders and stakeholders in attendance, including:

  • Representatives from Rwanda Transport Development Agency (RTDA)
  • The Mayor of Gisagara District
  • Engineering officials from Rwanda Ministry of Defence
  • Local residents and community members

A 19.5km Road Connecting Six Sectors

The 19.5-kilometre road serves as a critical link for residents across six sectors:

  • Save
  • Musha
  • Gikonko
  • Mamba
  • Ndora
  • Gishubi

This road supports the daily lives of over 200,000 residents, making it an essential corridor for both economic and social activities.

Project Cost and Timeline

he rehabilitation project is estimated to cost approximately 5 billion Rwandan Francs, reflecting a significant investment in rural infrastructure.

According to officials, the road works are expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

Improving Access to Markets, Healthcare, and Industry

The rehabilitation of the Save–Musha–Mamba road is expected to significantly improve:

  • Transportation of agricultural produce to markets
  • Access to healthcare services at Gakoma Hospital and other health centers
  • Access to Musha Center, Gisagara District Office, Ndora Market, and Huye Town
  • Connectivity to local industries, including the Nyiramugengeri factory

For many residents, deteriorating road conditions had slowed the movement of people and goods. The ongoing works aim to restore efficient transport and unlock new opportunities for local communities.

What This Means for the Construction Sector

This project highlights continued investment in Rwanda’s infrastructure sector and presents opportunities for:

  • Contractors and subcontractors
  • Material suppliers
  • Skilled and unskilled labor

It also reflects the government’s commitment to improving rural road networks, which are crucial for national development.
