Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the role is responsible for ensuring continuous power availability through effective operation, preventive maintenance, fault diagnosis, repairs, compliance management, and performance monitoring of generator systems.

The Rwanda Social Security Board (RSSB) has the mandate to manage and promote social security in Rwanda. RSSB’s vision is to provide a comprehensive social security system that caters to the diverse social security needs of the population, RSSB plays an important role in realising Vision 2050 and the National Strategy for Transformation (NST1). RSSB manages six social security schemes, namely: Pension, Occupational Hazards, Medical scheme, CBHI, Maternity Leave Benefits and EjoHeza (Long-term Term Saving Scheme).

Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate generator sets across Vision City Complex and RSSB properties in accordance with manufacturer specifications and RSSB procedures.
- Monitor generator performance, fuel levels, coolant temperatures, oil pressure, and load readings.
- Conduct routine engine starts, load tests, and transfer switch operations to ensure operational readiness.
- Maintain accurate records of generator run-hours, fuel consumption, faults, and maintenance activities.
- Coordinate generator operations during scheduled and unscheduled power outages.
- Plan and execute preventive maintenance programmes in line with manufacturers’ recommendations.
- Carry out oil and filter changes, coolant servicing, battery maintenance, and related maintenance activities.
- Inspect and test automatic transfer switches (ATS), switchgear, control panels, and associated equipment.
- Monitor and maintain fuel systems to prevent contamination, leakages, and operational failures.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and electronic faults affecting generator systems.
- Respond promptly to generator breakdowns and restore operations within agreed service levels.
- Liaise with authorized service providers and specialist contractors when external support is required.
- Manage generator spare parts inventory and support procurement processes.
- Ensure compliance with RSSB safety policies, Rwanda regulations, and applicable international standards.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement safe maintenance practices, including lockout/tagout procedures.
- Ensure proper storage and disposal of fuel, lubricants, and hazardous waste.
- Report accidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions in a timely manner.
- Prepare weekly and monthly reports on maintenance activities, fuel consumption, equipment performance, and outstanding issues.
- Track and report key performance indicators including equipment availability, reliability, and maintenance effectiveness.
- Maintain asset registers, maintenance schedules, and technical documentation for generator systems.
- Participate in annual capacity planning and provide recommendations for major repairs, overhauls, and equipment replacement.
- Perform any other duties relevant to Facilities Management as may be assigned from time to time.
- Key Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate must have at least:
- An Advanced Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or another related field.
- A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in generator maintenance and repair.
- Experience working with diesel generators and Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) systems.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance procedures and electrical troubleshooting techniques.
- Experience working with generators supporting commercial buildings, residential estates, or industrial facilities is an added advantage.
- Proficiency in generator brands such as Cummins, Perkins, Caterpillar, FG Wilson, or similar systems.
- Knowledge of low-voltage and medium-voltage electrical systems.
Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, communication, and reporting skills.
