Nyange–Muhanga Road Upgrade Reaches 91.5% Completion
The rehabilitation and upgrading works on the Nyange–Muhanga road section (24 Km) under the Muhanga–Karongi road project have now reached 91.5% completion, according to the Rwanda Transport Development Agency (RTDA).
This important infrastructure project is expected to significantly improve transportation, road safety, and economic activities between the Southern, Western, and Northern parts of Rwanda.
Residents and road users along the corridor have welcomed the progress of the works, highlighting that the road is now fully passable and that street lighting installation has already started in some sections. Remaining works currently include drainage improvements, installation of additional streetlights, and construction of pedestrian walkways.
The Nyange–Muhanga road serves as a strategic transport corridor connecting key regions of the country and facilitating the movement of people, goods, and services. Once completed, the upgraded road is expected to improve mobility, reduce travel time, and lower vehicle operating and maintenance costs.
Improved road infrastructure will also support trade and local businesses by easing access to markets and enabling faster transportation of goods. Farmers, transporters, and businesses operating along the corridor are expected to benefit from better connectivity and improved logistics.
Construction works currently underway include pavement strengthening, drainage system improvements, and other finishing activities. Authorities have emphasized that the project is being implemented with a focus on quality, safety, and environmental sustainability to ensure long-term benefits for communities.
RTDA further indicated that the Rubengera–Rambura and Rambura–Nyange sections of the road project have already been completed at 100%.
Upon completion, the Nyange–Muhanga road is expected to play a major role in supporting regional integration, economic growth, and Rwanda’s broader infrastructure development goals.
Road users and nearby residents are encouraged to continue cooperating with construction teams and to follow temporary traffic management measures as final works progress toward full completion.
