Utility Operator at BioNTech
About the role:
The Utility Operator is responsible for the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of utility systems (Clean and Black Utilities) at the mRNA-based vaccine production site. The role includes performing preventive maintenance, calibrations, and supporting projects and system qualifications in compliance with cGxP principles.
Your contribution:
- Operate, monitor, and maintain utility systems like purified Water (PW), Water for Injection (WFI), Clean Steam, Compressed Air, Nitrogen, HVAC systems etc.
- Perform routine checks, sampling, preventive maintenance, and calibrations
- Respond to alarms and deviations, escalating issues promptly and troubleshoot system issues and support corrective maintenance activities
- Ensure compliance with GMP standards and EHS regulations and maintain accurate documentation and support audits and inspections
- Perform calibration tasks across various categories (e.g., physical dimensions, electronics, torque, force, pressure, environmental conditions) following approved procedures to ensure equipment accuracy and reliability
- Record and report abnormal equipment functions or out-of-tolerance conditions while adhering to cGMP standards, ensuring compliance and operational efficiency
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis for instrumentation and calibration-related breakdowns and respond promptly to emergency situations involving defective equipment to minimize downtime.
A good match:
- Diploma or degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering (or equivalent technical qualification)
- 2–5 years in utility operations within pharmaceutical or FMCG industries
- Knowledge of System Operation and Basic Maintenance
- Knowledge of GMP requirements and utility systems
- Proficiency in reading P&IDs and technical manuals
- Familiarity with software tools like SAP PM, COMOS, or CMX and excellent computer skills and use of Microsoft office tools
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
- Ability to work in heights, wear PPE, and respond to emergencies
