Senior Procurement Engineer at UCC Holding
About the Role
As a Procurement Engineer at UMC JV, you’ll oversee the procurement of critical equipment and materials for the construction of the New Kigali International Airport. You will work closely with design and engineering teams to source specialized airport equipment and construction materials, including Mechanical and Electrical systems from overseas suppliers. Your expertise will ensure quality, timely delivery, and best-value sourcing to support project success.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement procurement strategies that maximize value and support business objectives.
- Collaborate with internal engineering and project teams to understand equipment and material requirements, especially for airport-specific systems.
- Research, evaluate, and manage supplier relationships (local and overseas) for construction, mechanical, and electrical equipment.
- Provide market insights and identify sourcing opportunities for airport-grade equipment and systems.
- Ensure compliance with best practices, company policies, and industry regulations.
- Support senior leaders in establishing and achieving short- and long-term procurement goals.
- Maintain accurate records of suppliers, materials, and services.
- Mentor and coach junior team members to build a high-performing, motivated procurement team.
- Drive continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives.
- Optimize sourcing processes using data-driven insights and tools.
- Communicate supply strategies and align stakeholders for smooth project execution.
- Ensure operational excellence in strategic sourcing and supplier management.
Job Requirements
Education:
🎓 Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering field.
📜 Professional Qualification in Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related technical certification is a plus.
Experience:
⭐ Minimum 8 years of total work experience.
⭐ At least 5 years in a relevant procurement role for major construction projects.
⭐ Proven experience in procurement of airport equipment, systems, and materials.
⭐ Experience in sourcing and managing overseas suppliers for Mechanical & Electrical equipment and systems.
⭐ Africa Area Experience (minimum 3 years) is a plus.
Knowledge & Skills:
✔️ Deep understanding of civil engineering principles and airport construction requirements.
✔️ Familiarity with technical specifications for airport equipment and systems.
✔️ Strong analytical skills for supplier evaluation and technical compliance.
✔️ Solid understanding of procurement processes and industry regulations.
✔️ Excellent negotiation skills for securing favorable terms while maintaining quality.
✔️ Effective interpersonal and communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
✔️ ERP knowledge (preferably SAP).
