Rwanda’s Major Infrastructure Projects by Province – September 2025 Update
As Rwanda accelerates progress toward Vision 2050, large-scale infrastructure projects are transforming transportation, energy, and water systems across the country. In late August 2025, Amb. Jean de Dieu Uwihangaye, Minister of State for Infrastructure, toured the Southern, Western, and Northern provinces to assess ongoing projects that are improving connectivity, powering industries, and enhancing livelihoods.
The story by Mininfra.gov.rw highlights how each province is advancing in major infrastructure projects that are positively impacting the economy and people’s livelihoods.
Here’s a province-by-province look at the projects shaping Rwanda’s future.
Southern Province: Roads, Bridges, and Energy
The Southern Province continues to see strong investment in connectivity and power generation:
- Kibugabuga–Shinga–Gasoro Road – Recently completed, spanning 66.55 kilometers. This vital project marks a transformative milestone as one of the first asphalt main roads directly linking Rwanda’s Eastern and Southern regions.

Northern Province: Expanding Renewable Energy
The Northern Province is home to one of Rwanda’s most ambitious power projects:
- Nyabarongo Hydropower Project (40 MW) – Expected completion by 2028, this project will significantly boost the country’s renewable energy capacity and grid stability.

The Nyabarongo Hydropower Project, expected to generate over 40 megawatts by 2028, stands as a mega project set to significantly boost Rwanda’s electricity development
Building a Better Future
These projects represent more than construction; they are catalysts for Rwanda’s socio-economic transformation. Each initiative supports industrialization, job creation, and inclusive growth—core pillars of Vision 2050.
“Our focus is not only on building infrastructure but also on building a better future for every Rwandan,” emphasized Minister Uwihangaye.
Rwanda’s infrastructure expansion is balanced across all provinces, ensuring no region is left behind. From roads and bridges to hydropower and ports, these investments reflect a national vision for a connected, energy-secure, and prosperous future.
