March 2026 Construction Updates: Newly Launched and Groundbreaking Projects Across Rwanda
March 2026 saw the launch of several key infrastructure projects across Rwanda, focusing on healthcare, sanitation, education, housing, and community welfare. In addition, national institutions like the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) and Rwanda National Police (RNP) launched the Defence and Security Citizens Outreach Programme 2026 (DSCOP26), further advancing development efforts across the country.
1. Nyamata Health Center – Bugesera District
On 6th March 2026, Bugesera District, in collaboration with LODA and other partners, officially laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Nyamata Health Center in Nyamata Sector.
Originally established in 1949, the health center is undergoing a major redevelopment to meet current healthcare demands.
Project Overview:
- Location: Nyamata Sector, Bugesera District
- Project Cost: Rwf 2 billion
- Construction Duration: 18 months
- Beneficiaries: Over 90,000 residents
Once completed, the upgraded facility is expected to significantly improve access to quality healthcare services while also creating employment opportunities for the local community.



2. Construction of 102 Public Latrines and Girls’ Rooms – Gatsibo District
On 17th March 2026, Gatsibo District launched the construction of 102 public latrines alongside girls’ rooms in key public areas, including markets and health centers.
The project is being implemented in partnership with Movimento Lotta Fame nel Mondo and aims to enhance sanitation and support gender-sensitive infrastructure.

- Project Value: Rwf 490,955,865
This initiative is expected to improve hygiene conditions, promote public health, and provide safe, supportive spaces for girls in public institutions.

3. Kagugu Health Center Expansion – Kigali
The Kagugu Health Center expansion project, which commenced in January 2026, continued to progress during March.
Project Overview:
- Funder: AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF)
- Contractor: CLEZOL
- Project Cost: Rwf 678 million
- Expected Completion: October 2026
The expansion aims to strengthen healthcare service delivery in Kagugu and surrounding areas by increasing capacity and improving medical infrastructure.



4. RDF and Rwanda National Police Launched DSCOP26, Advancing Infrastructure Projects Across Rwanda
The Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) and Rwanda National Police (RNP) launched the Defence and Security Citizens Outreach Programme 2026 (DSCOP26) on March 9, 2026, as part of activities marking the 32nd Liberation Anniversary (Kwibohora32).
While DSCOP26 includes several social development initiatives, this article focuses on the infrastructure and construction projects launched across different districts in Rwanda, highlighting efforts to improve connectivity, education facilities, water supply, and community development.
4.1. Construction of new classrooms at GS Rwankuba School
In Gasabo District, the programme was launched in Kinyinya Sector with the construction of new classrooms at GS Rwankuba School. The foundation stone for the classrooms was laid by the Minister of Education, together with the Mayor of the City of Kigali, senior officials from the Rwanda National Police, Rwanda Defence Force, and district authorities.
The project aims to reduce overcrowding in classrooms and improve the learning environment for students in the area.


4.2. Mitako water pipeline and constructing new water points with 2 taps in Mitako Village, Kiyanzi Cell in Kirehe district
In Nyamugari Sector, authorities launched water infrastructure rehabilitation works aimed at improving access to clean water. The project involves repairing the Mitako water pipeline and constructing new water points with 2 taps in Mitako Village, Kiyanzi Cell.
The initiative was officially launched by the District Mayor, together with representatives from the RDF, RNP, and local residents.


4.3. Construction of the Ryabazira Bridge
In Remera Sector, officials launched the construction of the Ryabazira Bridge, which connects Musanze District and Gakenke District.
The launch event was attended by the Governor of the Northern Province, Maurice Mugabowagahunde, the RDF Reserve Force Chief of Staff Maj Gen Alex Kagame, and Deputy Regional Police Commander CSP Prudence Ngendahimana, among other district leaders.
The Ryabazira Bridge is a key infrastructure project that will improve connectivity between Rurambo Cell in Musanze and Cyabingo Sector in Gakenke, facilitating movement for farmers, traders, students, and residents along the Kigali–Musanze corridor.

4.4. Construction of new education facilities at Kigese Technical Secondary School -Kamonyi District
In Rugalika Sector, the Minister of Defence, Juvenal Marizamunda, together with the Governor of the Southern Province, Alice Kayitesi, launched the construction of new education facilities at Kigese Technical Secondary School.
The project includes:
- Construction of 10 classrooms
- Administrative buildings
- A science laboratory
The development aims to reduce school overcrowding and strengthen technical education infrastructure in the district.

4.5. Construction of the Ntosho Bridge- Ruhano District
In Bweramana Sector, officials launched the construction of the Ntosho Bridge, which will connect Mukingo Sector in Nyanza District and Bweramana Sector in Ruhango District.
Once completed, the bridge will improve transportation and accessibility for residents, helping communities access markets, schools, and essential services more easily.

4.6. Construction of houses for vulnerable families- Nyamagabe District
In Tare Sector, local authorities launched a project to construct houses for vulnerable families.
The initiative began with the preparation of land in Uwinyana Village, Nyamigina Cell, where eight disadvantaged families will receive new homes.
Local leaders noted that the project will also create employment opportunities for residents during the construction process.

4.7. Construction of new houses for vulnerable households- Gisagara District
In Muganza Sector, the outreach programme includes the construction of new houses for vulnerable households.
A total of five “two-in-one” houses will be built, providing accommodation for ten disadvantaged families.
The project was launched by the District Mayor, together with representatives from the Ministry of Defence.

4.8. Construction of houses for vulnerable families- Nyabihu District.
In Bigogwe Sector, the Inspector General of Police, CG Felix Namuhoranye, launched the construction of houses for vulnerable families.
The project includes 30 houses, which will provide housing for disadvantaged households in the area.
According to Rwanda National Police spokesperson ACP Boniface Rutikanga, the outreach programme focuses on projects that directly address community needs and improve living conditions.

March 2026 marked significant progress in Rwanda’s infrastructure, with projects improving healthcare, sanitation, education, housing, and connectivity across the country. From health center upgrades and public latrines to bridges, water systems, and new classrooms, these initiatives enhance community welfare, create jobs, and support sustainable national development.
