Role Description: Managing Director
We are seeking a visionary and results-driven Managing Director to lead the organization into its next chapter of growth and technical advancement. This executive role is responsible for strategic leadership, operational management, and strengthening our market position within the civil and geotechnical engineering sectors.
Location: Kigali City, Rwanda
Type: Full-Time, On-Site
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the company’s strategic plan in alignment with its mission and growth objectives
- Oversee financial planning, operational efficiency, and resource optimization across departments
- Lead business development initiatives, build client relationships, and represent the company in high-level engagements
- Ensure regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and adherence to engineering standards
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and performance oversight to a multidisciplinary team
- Drive innovation in technical services and integrate best practices in engineering consultancy
- Expand the company’s service offerings and establish partnerships within the region and beyond
Qualifications
Educational Background:
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering is required
• Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Engineering Management is highly preferred
• Additional qualifications in Business Administration, Project Management, or Strategy are a strong advantage
Technical Expertise:
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive engineering experience, with 5+ years in senior leadership or executive roles
• Deep knowledge of soil mechanics, foundation engineering, pavement systems, and geotechnical analysis
• Familiarity with international engineering standards (ASTM, AASHTO, Eurocodes) and local construction regulations
• Exposure to geotechnical testing, laboratory processes, and data-driven design methodologies
Leadership and Business Management:
• Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage large-scale engineering projects
• Experience in strategic business planning, revenue growth, and organizational development
• Financial management skills including budgeting, forecasting, and cost control
• Proven track record in market expansion, client acquisition, and building partnerships
Compliance & Quality Assurance:
• Working knowledge of Rwandan labor laws, environmental policies, and HSE regulations
• Experience implementing Quality Management Systems (QMS) in engineering or technical environments
Communication & Soft Skills:
• Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills
• Adaptable, solution-oriented leader with a collaborative management style
• Fluency in English is required; knowledge of French or Kinyarwanda is an asset
Additional Requirements:
• Proficiency in tools such as GeoStudio, Plaxis, AutoCAD, or Civil 3D is advantageous
• Must be based in Kigali or willing to relocate upon appointment
