February 2026 Project Updates: Major Ongoing Construction and Infrastructure Projects Across Rwanda
During February 2026, Rwanda recorded steady progress across key infrastructure sectors including education, health, water, roads, energy, housing, irrigation, and environmental protection.
Several updates were presented to Parliament on 12 February 2026 by the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Yusuf Murangwa, during the revised 2025/26 national budget presentation. Additional updates were communicated by district authorities and national institutions throughout the month.
Below is a sector-by-sector breakdown of the latest construction progress across the country.
Education Infrastructure
During the 12 February 2026 parliamentary session, the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning announced significant progress in national education infrastructure projects.
- Construction of 7 Teacher Training Colleges has reached 69% completion, strengthening Rwanda’s teacher development capacity.
- Rwanda Coding Academy University: The Rwanda Coding Academy school has reached 72% completion, supporting the country’s digital skills and innovation agenda.
- On 20 February 2026, Ruhango District announced that modernization works at ES Kinazi TSS are nearing completion. The upgraded institution will serve as a model school for agriculture, livestock, and agro-processing training.
- On 11 February 2026, Nyarugenge District reported that construction of 16 classrooms at EP Gitega and EP Muhima is progressing well, alongside retaining wall works at GS Sainte Famille.
Health Infrastructure
- Masaka Hospital expansion project:
On 12 February 2026, the Minister reported that the upgrade of Masaka Hospital into a University Teaching Hospital has reached 98% completion, marking a major milestone in expanding tertiary healthcare services.

- Rwanda Medical Supply Warehouse Project
On 18 February 2026, the Ministry of Health confirmed continued construction of the Rwanda Medical Supply Warehouse. Once completed, the facility will double national storage capacity for essential medicines, significantly strengthening Rwanda’s pharmaceutical supply chain.


Water and Sanitation Infrastructure
During the 12 February 2026 budget presentation, updates on national water projects were also provided.
- Nyamagabe Water System (64 km) has reached 29% completion.
- Gisagara Water System (312 km) stands at 70% completion.
- Rehabilitation of 55 km of water systems across 13 districts has reached 79.3% completion.
- 9 February 2026, Huye District announced that the Rwaniro Water Supply Project is nearing completion. The project includes 30.4 kilometres of pipeline, 8 reservoirs, and 28 public taps, significantly expanding access to clean water in the district.
Irrigation & Dam Infrastructure
- Construction of Muvumba Multi-Purpose Dam: On 15 February 2026, Rwanda Water Resources Board announced that construction of the Muvumba Multi-Purpose Dam in Nyagatare District has reached 46% completion. The project is expected to irrigate 10,000 hectares upon completion. Due to heavy rainfall and relocation delays, the completion timeline has been extended to 2027.

Transportation Infrastructure
The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning highlighted continued progress on national road upgrades during the 12 February 2026 session.
- Ngoma–Ramiro (52.8 km): 70% complete
- Base–Butaro–Kidaho (63 km): 56% complete
- Nyagatare–Rwempasha (18 km): 70% complete
- Nyagatare–Rukomo (additional works): 70% complete
Feeder road rehabilitation projects are also advancing:
- Rutsiro (41 km): 85.2% complete
- Karongi (14.5 km): 84% complete
- Nyacyonga–Mukoto: 54.5% complete
- Nyagisozi–Remera–Nshili: 14.6% complete
Separately, on 3 February 2026, Ruhango District announced that asphalt works on the Kibingo–Karambo–Buhoro road are nearing completion, expected to accelerate urban development in Ruhango Town.
Energy Infrastructure
- Nyabarongo II Hydropower Plant (43.5 MW) : The Minister also reported that the Nyabarongo II Hydropower Plant (43.5 MW) has reached 60% completion as of 12 February 2026. Once completed, the plant will increase national electricity generation capacity and support Rwanda’s industrialization strategy.

Urbanization and Human Settlement Infrastructure
Housing development projects in Gasabo District also recorded progress.
- Batsinda Heza Estate (548 units) has reached 20.9% completion of infrastructures, builldings are now completed
- Nyabisindu Rehousing Project (1,639 units) stands at 4.5% completion.
These projects aim to expand access to planned housing and promote sustainable urban growth in Kigali.
Environmental Protection Infrastructure
- Kigali wetlands rehabilitation works — covering Gikondo, Nyabugogo, Kibumba, and Rugenge–Rwintare have reached 78% completion, according to the 12 February 2026 update. The project plays a critical role in flood control, ecosystem restoration, and long-term environmental resilience.
