Job Summary
UMC JV Ltd is hiring an experienced QA/QC Engineer – Certification Engineer for the prestigious New Kigali International Airport project. This role ensures construction works are executed according to approved specifications, international quality standards, and project-specific quality plans. The successful candidate will also lead and coordinate the preparation, submission, and tracking of all quality-related certifications and documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Project QA/QC Manager in implementing the Quality Management System (QMS) and IMS procedures.
- Prepare and submit Work Inspection Requests (WIRs) for all site construction activities.
- Review, verify, and document all materials received on-site to ensure compliance with approved submittals.
- Ensure that test results, certifications, and reports are logged, validated, and submitted as required.
- Lead the process of compiling and organising QA/QC dossiers and certification records for final handover.
- Monitor inspection activities and advise the construction team on corrective/preventive actions.
- Raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) where necessary and ensure proper documentation and resolution.
- Maintain records of test results and ensure all certifications (e.g., steel, concrete, MEP equipment) are traceable and up to date.
- Coordinate with subcontractors and third-party labs on material testing and certification.
- Participate in internal audits, weekly QA/QC meetings, and ensure readiness for external audits or client inspections.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of ISO 9001, SMACNA, ASHRAE, NFPA, QCS, and QA/QC best practices.
- Hands-on experience with preparing and verifying QA/QC documentation and certifications.
- Familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP is preferred.
- Excellent communication, reporting, and coordination skills.
- Knowledge of local and international construction certification standards and documentation protocols.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
- QA/QC certification (ISO 9001 Lead Auditor, ASQC CQM/CQE, or equivalent).
- MMUP/UPDA certification is a plus.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years total experience, including at least 3 years in QA/QC roles.
- Experience in certification and documentation of handovers is essential.
- Experience with airport infrastructure projects is an advantage.
- Prior experience in the African market is highly preferred.
