Maintenance Technician Processing Plant at Avipro Rwanda
Purpose:
Under the supervision of the Processing Plant Maintenance Officer, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for executing preventive and corrective maintenance tasks to ensure the smooth and continuous operation of plant equipment. The role supports production efficiency by minimizing equipment downtime while strictly respecting biosecurity, safety, and quality standards within the poultry processing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Maintenance Operations
· Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance on production equipment and utilities in accordance with maintenance schedules.
· Perform troubleshooting, fault diagnosis, and first-level repairs on machinery and installations (e.g., conveyors, chillers, boilers, generators, compressors, and refrigeration systems).
· Ensure all maintenance activities are performed in compliance with biosecurity, hygiene, and safety procedures.
· Assist in equipment installation, adjustment, and testing to ensure optimal performance.
· Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns to minimize production downtime.
2. Production Support
· Support production teams by ensuring equipment availability and operational efficiency.
· Report any recurring breakdowns or abnormal machine behavior to the Maintenance Officer.
· Participate in efforts to improve equipment reliability and reduce MTTR (Mean Time to Repair).
3. Reporting & Documentation
· Record all maintenance activities carried out (preventive and corrective) in maintenance logs or systems.
· Report daily work performed, breakdown incidents, and spare parts used.
· Provide feedback on equipment condition and potential risks to the Maintenance Officer.
4. Safety & Biosecurity Compliance
· Strictly follow all workplace safety rules and biosecurity protocols within the processing plant.
· Ensure proper cleaning and sanitization of tools and working areas after maintenance activities.
· Always Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
5. Equipment & Tools Management
· Properly use and maintain tools, spare parts, and maintenance equipment.
· Identify and report damaged or missing tools and request replacements when necessary.
6. Teamwork & Communication
· Work closely with other technicians and production teams to ensure smooth operations.
· Communicate effectively with the Maintenance Officer regarding urgent issues and technical challenges.
· Participate in training and continuous improvement activities as required.
· Qualifications:
· Diploma or Technical Certificate in Electromechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Refrigeration, Industrial Maintenance, or related field.
· 1–3 years of experience in industrial maintenance (food processing or manufacturing environment is an advantage).
· Basic knowledge of electrical systems, mechanical systems, refrigeration, and industrial equipment.
· Understanding of preventive maintenance practices and safety procedures.
· Ability to read technical manuals and diagrams.

Skills & Competencies:
· Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
· Good attention to detail and discipline in following procedures.
· Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced production environment.
· Team player with good communication skills.
· Physically fit and willing to work in cold and industrial environments.
· Willingness to work shifts, weekends, or during emergencies when required.
