March 2026 Construction Updates: Major Ongoing Projects Across Rwanda
As Rwanda enters April 2026, the country continues to record steady progress across key construction and infrastructure projects. Throughout March, notable advancements were observed in energy, water supply, real estate, healthcare, and commercial developments—highlighting Rwanda’s ongoing commitment to sustainable growth and improved service delivery.
Below is an overview of major projects that remained under construction and progressed significantly during March 2026.
1. Energy Infrastructure
1.1 LPG Storage Facility
The construction of Rwanda’s major Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) storage facility in Rusororo Sector, Gasabo District reached 70% completion as of 2nd March 2026, marking a major milestone in strengthening the country’s energy infrastructure.
Project Overview:
- Project Owner: SOCIETE PETROLIERE Ltd (SP)
- Civil Works Contractor: MM&RJD Co. Ltd
- Special Works: DEC-OGECO Group
- Project Cost: Approximately Rwf 60 billion (~$44 million)
- Site Area: 6 hectares
- Storage Capacity: 17,500 m³
- Facilities: 3 LPG spheres and cylinder filling systems
- Expected Completion: July 2026
This project will significantly enhance Rwanda’s capacity to store and distribute cooking gas for both domestic and industrial use.


1.2. Nyamugali Power Substation – Kirehe District
On 24 March 2026, the Ministers of Infrastructure and Agriculture began a two‑day visit to Rwanda’s Eastern Province to assess key infrastructure projects. Among them was the new substation, which will power major irrigation schemes and benefit over 18,000 residents across Kirehe, Ngoma, and Kayonza. With a planned capacity of 80 MVA, it will strengthen electricity reliability and support the long‑term sustainability of Mpanga and Mahama irrigation systems.



2. Water Infrastructure Projects
Rwanda is accelerating investments in water treatment and supply systems to ensure access to clean and safe water across the country.
2.1 Mutobo Water Treatment Plant – Musanze District
Progress on the Mutobo Water Treatment Plant upgrade reached approximately 84% during March. The project is set to increase production capacity from 12,500 to 55,500 cubic meters per day, providing a long-term solution to water shortages in Musanze, Burera, and surrounding districts.
2.2 Muhazi Water Treatment Plant – Eastern Province
As of 17 March 2026, the Muhazi Water Treatment Plant was reported to be 92% complete. In its first phase, the plant will supply clean water to 543,397 residents, including communities in Gatsibo and Kayonza districts. The project includes: 256 kilometres of water pipelines. 11 water reservoirs with 7,100 cubic metres storage capacity
Located along Lake Muhazi in Murambi Sector, the facility will significantly expand access to safe water across multiple sectors in both districts
2.3 Musogoro Water Treatment Plant – Karongi District
Construction works at the Musogoro Water Treatment Plant also progressed to approximately 92% completion. The facility is expected to produce 13,000 cubic meters of water per day, significantly improving access to clean water in surrounding communities.
2.4 Karenge Water Treatment Plant Upgrade – Rwamagana District
The upgrade of the Karenge Water Treatment Plant continued at around 30% completion during March. With an investment of approximately $52 million, the project will increase production capacity from 12,000 m³/day to 48,000 m³/day, supplying both Rwamagana District and parts of Kigali.

2.5 Nzove Water Treatment Plant Upgrade – Kigali
The rehabilitation and upgrade of the Nzove plant is ongoing and is expected to be completed within 2026, further strengthening Kigali’s water supply system.
3. Real Estate & Urban Development
3.1 Ramba Hills Estate– Kigali
As of 18 March 2026, the Ramba Hills project in Gasabo District continued to take shape, as reported by the City of Kigali. Located near King Faisal Hospital and extending toward the Kigali Golf Course, the project is set to become a key addition to Kigali’s evolving skyline. Construction is actively progressing, with multiple structures already rising and visible vertical development across the site.


3.2 Masaka Views Estate – Kigali
Construction at Masaka Views Estate reached approximately 50% completion in March. With an estimated investment of $25 million, the project features a mix of townhouses and semi‑detached homes. Steady progress continues across all residential units, reflecting strong momentum toward delivery.



4. Healthcare Infrastructure
4.1. Kagugu Health Center Expansion – Kigali
The expansion of Kagugu Health Center, which began in January 2026, reached approximately 38% completion in March. With an investment of Rwf 678 million, the project is scheduled for completion by October 2026 and is expected to significantly improve access to healthcare services in the area.
The project is funded by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) and is being constructed by CLEZOL, a Rwandan construction company.


4.2. King Faisal Hospital Expansion
The King Faisal Hospital Expansion site continues to rise through precision, coordination, and technical expertise—marking steady progress toward enhanced healthcare infrastructure in Kigali.


4.3. Muhororo Health Center Upgrade – Ngororero District
The upgrade of Muhororo Health Center progressed to approximately 17% completion, with excavation works ongoing. However, progress has been affected by heavy rainfall, which has slowed construction activities.

4.4. Kabaya Health Center Upgrade – Ngororero District
Similarly, the rehabilitation of Kabaya Health Center reached approximately 20% completion. Foundation works are ongoing, with initial structural development already underway

5. Industrial & Commercial Projects
5.1 Kirehe Imigongo Hub
Construction of the Kirehe Imigongo Hub reached approximately 65% completion during March. The project, valued at around Rwf 300 million, aims to promote local products such as Imigongo art and agricultural produce while boosting tourism and local economic activity.


5.2 Huye Business Mall
As of 25th March 2026, construction of the Huye Trading Company complex reached 71% completion. The project, valued at Rwf 7 billion, will deliver a four-storey commercial building developed by a group of local investors.

5.3. Musanze Food Court Development – Musanze City
As of March 2026, the construction of a modern Food Court in Musanze City reached approximately 85% completion. The project is nearing finalization and is expected to be completed by the end of April 2026. This exciting new space promises to elevate the visitor experience by offering a variety of culinary delights in a welcoming and well-designed setting.
